I wrote “The Robots Are Coming” off the back of everything happening with AI at the moment. It feels exciting but also a bit unsettling, so the track sits in that space between the two.
It’s quite stripped back. Pulsing bass, tight electronic drums and a simple hook that loops and builds. I have been listening to a lot of Automatic, Miss Grit and early Depeche Mode, so that minimal, slightly detached feel definitely crept in. It is more about groove and mood than layering lots of parts.
The vocal is intentionally held back. It just rides the track and lets the rhythm do the work. I wanted it to feel hypnotic, something you put on late at night and get lost in.
Lyrically it plays with the idea of machines getting smarter and faster. There is a bit of humour in it, but also a sense that things are moving quickly. “They’re learning fast” kind of captures that.
It feels like a step forward from the last releases. Still synth driven but tighter and more focused.
